Marc Boothe, Director of B3 Media, is looking forward to the next round of Blank Slate “B3 are always on the lookout for fresh original talent. We are excited by the prospect of unearthing the next batch of stories that raise the bar and push the creative boundaries for emerging filmmakers.”

Young Film-makers. Get seen on the big screen!
Get seen, get heard, find an audience.
If you’re working with young people in and around the South London area, you can get their films shown for free on the big screen at the BFI Southbank, as part of one of our quarterly Beautiful South screenings.
Seeing your film in a cinema is an important learning experience. Not only is the film louder and more spectacular on a big screen, being part of an audience of strangers also gives you a fantastic new perspective on your work. It’s the best way of gauging responses to your work and learning how to communicate with an audience.
Beautiful South is also an amazing opportunity to check out the competition and see other films made by young people and first-time film-makers.
At each session we invite established film-makers to talk about their careers and answer the young people’s questions. Past guests include Tom Harper (Cubs); Gary Love (Sugarhouse) and Paul Andrew Williams (London To Brighton).
For more information on how to take advantage of this amazing opportunity contact Tim Hunter at the BFI: 020 7815 1337/ tim.hunter@bfi.org.uk.

Pitch in two minutes and you could be offered money the same day.
No complicated forms and budgets to fill out."

10 minutes of footage. 10 minutes of feedback
Here’s how it works: bring up to ten minutes of your work-in-progress and get ten minutes of feedback from the group. It can be anything you’re working on – a trailer, an excerpt, the opening of your film, a key scene etc…
Whether you want to come screen or just be one of the viewers at the event, it’s a great opportunity to gain support, get crucial feedback, meet your peers and feel part of the independent London doc community. It’s also a rare chance to see what others are working on and gain a hands-on perspective of what works, what doesn’t and why.
Come along whether you have something you want to screen or not – you’ll get to hear points-of-view you’d otherwise not come into contact with that could widen your approach to your work. We’ll be continuing the conversation down the pub after the session.
The 10x10 format was created by Doculink, and has been running since 2005 in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Vancouver, BC. In the UK, we're onto the 'difficult' second event. If it’s going to work then we need YOU, the London doc community to get involved!
Participation is free and on a first-come-first-served basis. Send us a line now at 10x10@dfgdocs.com to ensure getting on the list to screen and to give us an idea of numbers. Space is limited.
When – 1st August, 7.30pm
Where – DFG, Dalston, London. Click here for location details: http://www.dfgdocs.com/Contact/index.aspx

Halloween presents The Future of Music Video
Tuesday 31st July, 5:30pm / Curzon Soho / £6.50
With filmmaking becoming easier by the day via digital techniques and
cheaper equipment, the days of the overblown overpriced music video are
now well over. We present representatives from both ends of the scale,
from directors and commissioners working with chart names to
representatives from smaller labels such as Transgressive Records, who
deal with new rising artistes and non-mainstream acts.
This will be followed by Shooting People Music Video Network open-access
video night. One can bring music videos on DVD to be screened. Just turn
up on the night.
London Film Academy Masterclass: Post Production/Visual Effects
Tuesday 31st July, 7pm / Curzon Soho / £6.50
This masterclass will offer guidance on how to create professional post
production visual effects on a low budget. It will be delivered by
David Hilton (worked on several James Bond films), David Barnard

straight 8 PREMIERES
Sunday 29th July, 4:30pm / Curzon Mayfair / £7
Monday 30th July, 6:30pm / Curzon Mayfair / £7
'straight 8' puts filmmakers into the unusual position of seeing their
own rushes at exactly the same time as the audience. In an event devised
to get people to shoot films instead of just talking about it, directors
are set an inventive and excuse-free challenge to create a mini-masterpiece.
Filmmakers do not see the film until it screens in front of a huge
audience. "There are no other film screenings that I know of where the
audience sits with the directors, actors and crew to watch their film for the first time" says straight 8 founder Ed Sayers. "Apart from
looking at the film through a viewfinder they haven't seen their work
yet. Watching your film this way feels like both the fastest and slowest
three minutes of your life at the same time." http://www.straight8.net

Delivered in conjunction with the Southbank Centre and media partners Shooting People and LIVE Magazine, this initiative forms a key part of the BFI's ongoing commitment to support local film-makers. These sessions will include screenings of locally produced material, advice from established film-makers and industry professionals, as well as opportunities to network with other young creatives.
August is a time for reflection on the South Bank. As our partners at the South Bank Centre, re-open their doors, we look back to the Festival of Britain and to the various significances the site has had since that time.
With this in mind, the August instalment of Beautiful South takes 'Remembrance' as its theme. And in remembering the celebrations that have taken place in the area over the years, our evening's discussion will centre around the various film festivals that exist throughout London and the UK.
Again the evening will be split in two, with an the earlier session showcasing the work of local training schemes for young people, and a second session focusing on works submitted by emerging film-makers.
To submit your film for consideration, download the application form from our website - www.bfi.org.uk/beautifulsouth - or contact us at beautifulsouth@bfi.org.uk.
An exclusive offer for Beautiful South patrons. Shooting People are offering a massive GBP15 off an annual membership. That's 50%! With over 33k membersin the UK and US, Shooting People is the world's largest community of independent film-makers. pitch your ideas!
Can you do better? Now’s your chance to prove it!!!!
You may have a great idea for a film, but have you got what it takes to convince a panel of tough industry professionals that your idea is the best, in only 5 minutes.
The Screenwriters’ Festival ‘07 in association with 4Talent want to give YOU the opportunity to pitch your amazing movie or TV idea to a stellar industry panel.
Several writers from last year’s pitching competition have already gone onto bigger and better things: some have had their ideas optioned or have been commissioned to write an original screenplay.
As Channel 4 and 4Talent are always on the lookout for new and emerging talent, this pitching competition is the perfect opportunity to get noticed. The three winners of FEVERpitch will get the chance to talk to Film4 Executives about their ideas as well as receiving a ticket and free accommodation* to the rest of the Screenwriters’ Festival, Thursday 5th and Friday 6th July 2007.
So, if you have a drop dead gorgeous idea for a feature film or TV drama in any genre, we wanna hear it. Write down your pitch in 25 words, then on a separate page, expand the synopsis to 150 words and email it to us. Out of all the entries we will shortlist ten who will attend the festival on Tuesday 3rd, and have a special coaching session on the Wednesday 4th July before the live pitching session.
• Send us in your prized pitch.
• Out of all the entries, ten will be chosen to go forward to the live pitching session on the Rising Talent day, Wednesday 4th July
• Prior to the pitching session, Agent Julian Friedmann will hold a private pitching lesson for the ten finalists.
• The finalists will then pitch to a panel of industry professionals who will give feedback in front of the live festival audience.
• And here’s the twist, the panel won’t be choosing the 3 winners, the audience will…
All shortlisted entrants will be entered into the 4Talent Directory which is the profile section of the website that allows creatives to promote themselves.
Closing Date for entries is Friday 22nd June 2007 at midnight:
feverpitch@screenwritersfestival.com
