Beautiful South

On August 8th the BFI Southbank is proud to again present Beautiful South - a quarterly event celebrating and showcasing South London's emerging and diverse cinematic talent. Delivered in conjunction with the Southbank Centre and media partners Shooting People and LIVE Magazine, these sessions include screenings of locally produced material, advice from established film-makers and industry professionals, as well as opportunities to network with other young creatives.

August is a time for reflection on the South Bank. As our partners at the South Bank Centre, re-open their doors, we look back to the Festival of Britain and to the various significances the site has had since that time. With this in mind, the August installment of Beautiful South takes 'Remembrance' as its theme.

To submit your film of up to 15 minutes in length for consideration, download the application form from our website - www.bfi.org.uk/beautifulsouth - or contact us at beautifulsouth@bfi.org.uk. Preference will be given to works that reflect the current theme, as well as to South London filmmakers. The deadline is July 18th.

We'll be in touch soon with further details of the evening itself, which will also feature a panel discussion surrounding essential facts and inside information on film festivals around London and the UK.

Further to this - the BFI Southbank is planning a series of events as part of the Thames Festival on September 15th and 16th of this year. As part of the activity there will be showcasing opportunities for local filmmakers whose work subscribes to the festival's theme - Water. If you are interested in submitting your work, please contact claire.geddie@bfi.org.uk.
